FRICTION was written for Friction Quartet in April 2015. They premiered the work on the Wayward Music Series in Seattle, WA on June 3. After seeing and hearing the enormous amount of energy produced by these four players, I knew I had to write a work thatcapitalized on their rhythmic ferocity, their fire, passion, and intense focus. FRICTION is a fast, single movement work exploring textural juxtapositions using two pitch collections with their inversions. The work is dedicated to the inexhaustible Friction Quartet.
